Despina Vandi is one of the most successful and impressive show women in Greece. Her career, which has transcended the borders of the country, spans over 30 years of creation, filled with numerous award-winning albums and timeless songs, along with countless sold-out live performances.
Discography Journey
Her discography journey began in 1994 with the album “Gela Mou”. In the same year, after numerous live performances in Thessaloniki, she made her first appearance in Athens alongside Vasilis Karras.
In 1997, she began a long-term collaboration with hitmaker Foivos, offering the public dozens of major hits. Notably, in 2000, she released “Ypofero”, which went six times platinum and was awarded as the most successful single of all time in Greece by Richard Branson of Virgin Megastores in London.
In 2002, she was honored with the "Best Selling Greek Artist for 2002" award at the World Music Awards in Monte Carlo. This was the first time this award was given to a Greek artist living and working in Greece. Meanwhile, her international singles “Gia”, “Opa Opa”, and “Come Along Now” made it to the charts in various countries worldwide, including the prestigious Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and Hot Dance Airplay charts.
Throughout these 30 years, Despina Vandi has consistently delivered major and No. 1 chart-topping hits. Her songs capture the hearts of audiences, dominate digital streams, physical sales, and hold top positions in radio airplay.
Alongside her music career, she has starred in the popular TV series “Dyo Xenoi” hosted the Greek Eurovision finals in 2013 and 2014, and was the host of “X Factor” in 2019. She also presented her own travel show “My Greece” and served as a coach on talent shows “The Voice” and “Rising Star”, as well as a judge on “Just The 2 Of Us”.
Her involvement in theater has also been remarkable and successful. In December 2016, she starred for two consecutive seasons in the Greek adaptation of the legendary musical “Mamma Mia!”. In 2019, she had the leading role in the musical “To Diko Mas Cinema”, a tribute to the great voices of Greek cinema.
Continuing her streak of major successes, she released “Ya Habibi” with Kings, “S' Agapao Kai Den Pao Kala” and “Panselinos” with Mente Fuerte. These tracks achieved huge acclaim from audiences and radio, amassing millions of digital streams and YouTube views, and topped the charts and trends for weeks.
